2025–2026 Academic Year Information on the Compulsory Preparatory Proficiency Exam (For Students of the German Language Teaching Department)
For students of the German Language Teaching Department, the compulsory German proficiency exam applied at the beginning of the academic year before preparatory education is a 3 (three) session exam. The scope of the sessions is given below:
• Session: Grammar and Vocabulary + Writing
• Session: Listening and Reading
• Session: Speaking
In the first session of the exam, multiple-choice questions are asked to measure students’ German grammar and reading skills. In this section, 50 multiple-choice questions testing German grammar and vocabulary and 30 cloze test questions (sentence completion) are asked.
In the writing section, there are 3 (three) subsections. In this section, three different situations are given to the students. These can be an e-mail, a request for information, an opinion, or a complaint. Students are asked to write a response to the given situation.

2nd Session
The second session of the exam consists of German listening (hören) and reading (lesen) sections.
In this session, 20 questions are asked in the listening section in the form of single-choice and gap-filling. Each listening text is played 1 (one) or 2 (two) times consecutively for the students, and listening comprehension questions are asked. The number and type of questions in the listening section may vary from exam to exam.
In addition, 20 multiple-choice questions measuring German reading skills are asked.
The first and second sessions of the exam are held on the same day (first session in the morning, second session in the afternoon).

3rd Session
The final session of the exam, the speaking section, is held on the day after the written exam. Students are called into the exam rooms in turn as announced on the website. Students may take the speaking exam individually or in pairs.
In the exam:
• Part 1: General questions
• Part 2: Describing a picture and providing information about daily routine
Total: 6–8 questions, approx. 5–10 minutes.
