Visit from the School of Foreign Languages to the Faculty of Tourism

The School of Foreign Languages of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University paid a visit to the Faculty of Tourism, an internal stakeholder of the university. The visit was attended by the Director of the School of Foreign Languages, Dr. Ercan Kaçmaz, Vice Director Dr. Aslı Özdemir, and the lecturers responsible for teaching foreign language courses in the Faculty of Tourism.

During the visit, the delegation was hosted by the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Şahin Perçin, Vice Deans Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eda Özgül Katlav and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gaye Deniz, along with the academic staff of the faculty. In addition, representing the departments of the faculty, the Head of the Department of Tourism Management, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Eren, the Head of the Department of Tourist Guiding, Prof. Dr. Bekir Bora Dedeoğlu, and the Head of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günay Erol, participated in the meeting.

Within the scope of the visit, the foreign language courses conducted in the faculty and the related teaching processes were evaluated in detail. Particular attention was given to the intensity of course hours and the high number of students in classes. Especially in the Departments of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Tourism Management, the need to reduce the number of foreign language course hours was discussed. In this context, possible solutions for creating a more balanced distribution of course workload and student numbers were evaluated. Furthermore, discussions were held on preparing effective course content that would help students improve their speaking skills in the language they learn. Activities that could increase the motivation of students in the Department of Tourist Guiding during their preparation process for the Foreign Language Exam (YDS) were also addressed.
