Date: 19 March 2025
Venue: Şehit Eren Bülbül Konferans Salonu
Abstract:
How is artificial intelligence reshaping the way we teach and learn languages? In this presentation, led by the author of The Impact of ChatGPT on Higher Education: Exploring the AI Revolution, we explore the transformative impact of AI on higher education, with a specific focus on English language preparatory programs.
The first part of the session draws from the key research insights in the book, highlighting the benefits and challenges of AI in the classroom. We will also explore how AI is affecting key stakeholders—students, instructors, and universities—by enhancing learning, automating routine tasks, and improving operational efficiency. The presentation will provide a case study of MEF University’s integration of AI tools, policies, and practical applications.
In the second part, the focus shifts to the potential of AI in EFL classrooms. Attendees will learn how AI tools such as Magic School, Padlet, Gamma, and School AI can be used to support language practice, enhance student engagement, and automate routine tasks. Common concerns, including time efficiency, job security, and practical integration, will be addressed, along with ethical considerations such as balancing AI use with authentic language learning and the risks of over-reliance. At the end of the session, participants will be equipped with practical strategies and insights to confidently incorporate AI tools into their EFL classrooms, making language teaching more engaging and efficient.
