Frequently Asked Questions about the Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam

The Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam is conducted under the coordination of the School of Foreign Languages but held in faculties, schools, and vocational schools.

This exam will be held on Thursday, 18 September 2025, at 10:00 in all academic units (faculties, schools, and vocational schools). Participation in the exam will be organized by the academic units.

What is the Compulsory Foreign Language Course?
Compulsory foreign language courses are the Foreign Language (I–II) courses that newly enrolled students at the university are required to take, in accordance with Article 5, paragraph 1, subparagraph (ı) of Law No. 2547.

Who can take the Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam?
Newly enrolled students at our university who wish to be exempt from the compulsory foreign language courses may take the exemption exam.

Is it mandatory to take the Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam?
It is NOT mandatory to take the Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam.

Where is the Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam held?
The exam is administered within the faculty/school or vocational school where the student is registered. For example, a student enrolled in the Avanos Vocational School Organic Farming Program will take the exam at the Avanos Vocational School, while a student enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering will take the exam in the Faculty of Engineering building located on the main campus.

What should I do to take the Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam?
Students who wish to take the exemption exam can apply to the faculty/school or vocational school where they are registered. Since each faculty, school, or vocational school may have different practices, students must regularly check the announcements made on the website of the relevant unit.

Will students who pass the Compulsory Foreign Language Course Exemption Exam be exempt only from the fall semester course? Will there be another exemption exam for the spring semester?
Students who pass the exemption exam are exempt from both the fall semester Foreign Language I course and the spring semester Foreign Language II course. There will be no second exemption exam for the spring semester.
